RPL Training and Assessment
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training and assessment is a formal process that allows you to convert your existing skills and experience into a nationally recognised qualification. If you have workplace experience but no formal qualification, RPL training and assessment can help you achieve certification without attending traditional classes.
At Skill Elevate, we follow the standards set by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to ensure our RPL training and assessment process is valid, reliable, and meets national standards. Here’s how it works.
What Is RPL Training and Assessment?
RPL training and assessment is about proving your competence in a specific field based on the skills and knowledge you already have. You don’t need to complete a full course if you can demonstrate you meet the requirements of a qualification through your prior learning and experience.
The assessment part of RPL involves gathering evidence of your skills. This evidence is reviewed by qualified assessors from one of our partner Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). If you meet all the competency requirements, you can be awarded a qualification. If there are any gaps in your skills, you may need to complete gap training to fill those areas.
The RPL Training and Assessment Process
1. Eligibility Check
We start by reviewing your work history and experience through a free consultation. This helps determine whether you’re eligible to enter the RPL training and assessment process.
2. Evidence Collection
You’ll be asked to provide evidence that proves your competency. This can include:
- Work samples or projects
- Job descriptions and résumés
- Reference letters from employers
- Photos or videos of you performing tasks
- Certificates from previous training
3. Assessment by an RTO
An assessor reviews your evidence against the qualification’s competency standards. You may also participate in an interview or practical demonstration to confirm your knowledge and skills.
4. Gap Training (If Needed)
If your assessor identifies gaps in your skills, you’ll be offered gap training. This is focused training that only covers the areas where you need further development. It ensures you meet all required competencies before a qualification is issued.
5. Qualification Issued
Once you’re assessed as competent in all required units, you’ll be issued a nationally recognised qualification through our partner RTOs. This confirms your skills are current and meet industry standards.
Why RPL Training and Assessment Matters
RPL training and assessment recognises the value of workplace learning and experience. It’s a flexible, efficient pathway for experienced workers to formalise their skills. Whether you’re applying for a new job, seeking a promotion, or meeting industry licensing requirements, RPL gives you the formal qualification you need.
ASQA highlights the importance of a fair, valid, and reliable RPL assessment process. At Skill Elevate, we follow best practice to ensure your skills are assessed accurately and fairly.
